RIG TERMS
1. Head = The whole area at the top of the sail. How to remember: Just like a person, our head is on the top.
2. Luff = The mast side of the sail. The part that holds the mast is knows as the luff pocket or the luff sleeve. If there is a panel, this is known as the luff panel.
3. Mast = The pole that holds the sail up.
4. Uphaul = This is a rope that is used to pull the sail out of the water.
5. Towing Eye = Loop at the nose of the board used for towing. Some boards have these & some don't.
6. Nose = This is the front of the board.
7. Mast Foot = The mast foot consist of a number of pieces:
7.1 The mast base - This screws into the mast track that is on the deck of the board.
7.2 The Mast Extension - This slots into the bottom of the mast & then connects to the Mast base. This therefore connects the sail to the board.
8. Deck = The top surface of the board.
9. Daggerboard = This is also known as the Centreboard or the Centre fin. Not all boards have these. There are three types:
9.1 Removable - you can take the centre fin off.
9.2 Retractable - the centre fin flips up underneath the board.
9.3 Fixed - always attached to your board.
10. Tack = Bottom area of the sail.
11. Track = A slot in the deck of the board
12. Fin (Skeg) = The fin helps with direction & stability.
13. Footstraps = Place your feet in these. They help to keep balance & grip to the board.
14. Tail = The back of the board.
15. Boom = The Handle Bars.
16. Clew = The area of the sail that has the hole in it & connects to the back end of the boom.
17. Leech = This part refers to the part of the sail that is furthest away from the mast.
18. Sail = The Whole Sail.
19. Battern = Long sticks that are in the sail. These support the sail & hold the sail out flat.

OTHER WINDSURFING TERMS
1. Sheet In = This means to pull the back end of the boom in closer to you.
2. Sheet Out = Let the sail out so that the back end of the boom is further away from you.
3. Upwind = When you sail upwind, you are sailing into the the on-coming wind.
4. Downwind = Sailing downwind means that the wind is at your back and you are sailing with it.
